home again!

well, we're back from an amazing adventure in new zealand. i'm busy processing all the photos we took, and prepping an epic travel journal that will be posted here in the next week or so. i'll provide a detailed day-by-day account (like with our europe trip. again, this is as much for me to remember what the heck we did as for you, dear reader, to live vicariously through the bookouts... hope the new year has found everyone well and happy.

silence

there's been a whole lot of silence 'round these parts lately because of some extreme busy-ness in the bookout life. and there will be more silence until we get back from our trip in mid-january. but stay tuned for the travelogue of our new zealand adventure!

happy new year to you all!

new career?

maybe i'll just become a cat photographer. my parents' new kitty, toppersocks, was a gracious model when i visited.

previously on...

well, bubs and i came down with the flu while we were in indiana, and i've been down and out for 13 days now. i have a little bit of catching up to do...

my sister and i took the kids to apple works near her house while i was visiting, and i snapped a few photos. you'll notice the shots of charlie are blurry, which is appropriate since he is always on the move! he is also a master of funny faces.

we're spending some time in greenwood, indiana, with dave's dad and stepmom at their new house. taking beau to the dog park on a beautiful fall hoosier day was a highlight.

we had a brief layover in denver on our way back to the hoosier state, and happily discovered some really lovely art on display from southwestern colorado artists.

weekword: hole

linda sue chose the weekword for this week, and i knew exactly what i wanted to show the world!

ms. leila, my sweet sweet pup, has been working on digging a special place under the house. after she's been working, she comes back into the house all proud and tail-wagging giddiness at a job well done.

if i were a little gnome...

i'd think i'd found the perfect home...in this sweet little field of toadstools in seattle's lower queen anne neighborhood.

i've been having quite a bit of trouble using picasa's photo uploader, especially with its treatment of color. so, i am switching over to using flickr to host photos. please bear with me as i try to learn a new trick.

halloween in seattle

we drove up to seattle with nicole and jen to celebrate halloween with nthn and jkj. we had a great time hanging out at their lower queen anne apartment, then walking to belltown to gawk at other nutty halloweeners.

jack-o-lanterns!

we went to kathy and aura's for pumpkin carving. this was dave's first jack-o-lantern from start to finish (he said as a kid he got bored after cleaning the pumpkin out and never carved the face) - his is the littlest one with the round eyes and mouth. mine is the skully-looking one.

october

i will never tire of the sight of leaves turning, the smell of their slow decomposition in the rain, and the feel of kicking through them.

as you may notice, my beloved D40 is working again. in the coming months, i'm hoping to break back into 35mm with a little old point-and-shoot minolta i found at an estate sale.

great wolf lodge!

for shorty's birthday, eight of us took a trip up to great wolf lodge to participate in some serious indoor waterslide fun. i borrowed a friend's underwater camera and we captured some great shots. i have a pretty strict rule about only posting photos i've taken here and, although there were some amazing other photos, i'm just showing the ones i can take some credit for...

p.s. my camera should be out of the shop soon. i hope that means a more consistent return to the blogosphere! in the meantime, i've been crafting up a storm, but can't tell what i've been making yet since there are many birthday surprises that would be spoiled if i did!
